The CYOCAs

And so begins the shaggy-dog thread, "the Search for the Academic & Financial Plan." This document, while unknown to 99.9% of the student body, and 100% of Student Council, is arguably the most important written work of the Clark Administration, containing not just tons of facts about the current state of the campus, but also the plans for the next 5-10 years worth of major University changes, everything from Admissions' enrollments to campus demolition and construction.

This thread is a giant endless loop, with only one choice that can get you out of it. There are 17 jumps in the loop before it repeats. It contains no choices, just a lengthy series of ill-informed referrals. It is designed to frustrate. The frustration is about 1/1000000 of actually experiencing it.

I should know-- I went looking for a copy of the Plan and it took me two weeks to find one. (You are lucky here: every place Traina goes has someone in it who it willing to make time for him. ) The choice that lets you out of the loop is fairly obvious-- I didn't want people to go as nuts as I did. Suffice to say, this thread is a taste of what one goes through when trying to satisfy a simple request.

The quest ended when I randomly bumped into Deb Brenner and she gave me her (only copy) rough draft, covered in proofreading marks. It was the only one I saw until a new Plan was produced in 1998.
