Of all the jokes in the book, this was the one I was expecting the most flak for. Not only is it based on racial vocabulary ("black," "yellow," "red," etc.) but the joke is based on the fact that Clark's domestic population is all-white, just like Tilton Hall itself.

 Needless to say, nobody has ever mentioned this joke to me, for good or ill. Perhaps those who noticed were too offended to talk to me again...

 Actually, hold the phone--!! I just looked at a copy of the book, and the word "international" is replaced with the word "the." No wonder nobody mentioned it. Did I do that? How weird. The joke was still there, but hopelessly obscured... another casualty of PC paranoia. (I have changed it back for the online edition...)
